DIY EMBROIDERED EYE PILLOW

In the process of  browsing Instagram, Pinterest and Co on the lookout for interior inspiration for my new home, I came across a pillow which had eyes on it through Andy from Stylescrapbook and Katelavie. Of course, I immediately checked the internet for it, but also almost as quickly I thought about simply making it myself. I love DIYing clothes, but there are also limitless possibilities concerning interior DIY projects out there. Especially with the original pillow being 39$, it was a no brainer for me to make it myself for much less. Of course, I documented the whole process and wrote a step-by-step tutorial on how to make this super cute embroidered eye pillow. Would you like to see more interior DIY projects?

What you need:
a white piece of fabric that covers the size of your pillow
black sewing thread
blue fabric dots (I needed 20 for a 50x50 cm pillow)
a white zipper (mine is 40 cm long) +
Vliesofix
needles
scissors
a sewing machine

For this project, I used some Vliesofix. It is  similar to doublesided tape, that you iron on your designated piece of fabric and it will stick in place without any sewing involved. I used Vliesofix on the blue dots, but in case you cannot find it anywhere or you´re not a big fan of it, you can also sew on the blue dots with a sewing machine.

1.Iron on the Vliesofix on a piece of blue fabric and cut out as many blue dots as you like. Next, measure out your pillow, add about 4 cm to the width and cut out  two identical pieces out of the white fabric.

2. Spread out the blue dots on one white fabric pieces evenly and take off the paper from the Vliesofix.

3. Afterwards, iron on the blue dots for 20-30 seconds, so that they stick on to the white fabric.

4. Now comes the stiching: For me, creating similar eye shapes was the easiest when I marked the two outer corners of the eye with a small dot. Using your black sewing thread and a straight stitch, stitch around the eye first and then add the eye lashes afterwards.

5. Once you are finished with all the eyes. Place the two white fabric pieces on each other like pictured. Place the zipper on the bottom side, pin it on with some needles like I did in the picture and sew over it with a sewing machine. Keep in mind, that you don´t sew too close to the actual zipper, because then, it might be hard to open and close it.

6. Afterwards, sew along the edges of the white fabric with a distance of about 2 cm, turn the pillow around and you are done!
