RECIPE: MAKING POKÉ BOWLS AT HOME

After incorporating burrito bowls and lunch bowls in general in my diet and meal plan, there is a new kid on the blog: poké bowls!

Poké bowls originally are from Hawaii, but because of the raw fish which is usually used as a topping, they remind me of sushi in a bowl. Since I love eating burrito bowls and lunch bowls, I really wanted to try out a Poké bowl. However, the trend has only just arrived in Germany, so I couldn´t find a restaurant or café offering the Hawaiian bowl close-by. But since I love anything DIY or homemade, I spent some time googling and researching the food trend and settling on making them at home.

Typically, Poké Bowls are made out of rice as a base with different toppings such as tuna or salmon and lots of veggies such as edamame beans, pineapple etc.
When you are like me and don´t want to use raw fish at home, that´s not a problem at all - because there are plenty of other sources of protein you can choose from such as Tofu or goat´s cheese, but more on that in a second.
Now, the great thing with Poké Bowls (or any lunch bowl) is that you can completely customize them according to your taste and preferances. I am personally not a big fan of tofu, so I skipped that, while adding some extra avocado and goat´s cheese.

CHOOSE A BASE
  • rice (you can also use sushi rice)
  • quinoa
  • salad (for a low carb option)

ADD SOME PROTEIN

  • tuna
  • tofu
  • goat´s cheese

WHAT ELSE DO YOU WANT TO ADD ON?

  • carrots

  • corn
  • cress

CHOOSE YOUR TOPPINGS
  • sesame seeds
  • ginger
  • nuts
  • coriander
