THE SHAKSHUKA RECIPE YOU NEED TO TRY

Have you heard of Shakshuka? I certainly hadn´t just until about 2 months ago, when I saw it pop up on various Instagram pictures. Since I am always on the hunt for something new to try - also food wise - I really wanted to make Shakshuka myself.

Apparently, Shakshuka is usually eaten for breakfast, but with the sweet-tooth that I have, I am not the biggest fan of savory breakfast. But with it mainly containing tomatoes and paprika, I thought it would make a nice lunch as well - and it did! Also, it´s not hard to make and doesn´t take ages to prepare. So Shakshuka ticked all of my mental boxes a dish needs for me to love it and here is the recipe! Enjoy with some white bread - as we did - or some pita bread.

WHAT YOU NEED
  • 1 onion
  • 1 garlic glove
  • 1 chili pepper
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • 1 tsp cardamom
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1 can of tomato cubes (500 gr)
  • 1 tbsp of tomato paste
  • 1 paprika
  • 4 eggs
  • olive oil
  1. Peel the onion and garlic and cut them in small pieces. Wash the chili pepper, remove the seeds and cut it into small streaks.
  2. Add the cumin together with the onion, garlic and chili pepper in a pan and roast it for about 3 minutes.
  3. Cut the paprika into small cubes as well and add it to the pan as well as the cinnamon stick, cardamom and tomato paste. Roast, once again, for 5 minutes.
  4. Add the tomato cubes and let it simmer for 12 minutes.
  5. Last, but not least, add the eggs to the pan and poach them for 5-6 minutes and you are done!

    1. I´ve actually never tried Shakshuka in a restaurant, so I am really excited to find a place in the area that serves it, so I can see how that tastes. But homemade Shakshuka also tastes great and it´s almost foolproof.
