3 QUICK + HEALTHY SNACK RECIPES TO SATISFY YOUR SUGAR CRAVINGS

Two - not very kind - nicknames my brother gave me are "snackmonster" and "very hungry caterpillar".

And while I like to emphasize that I am not always eating or snacking, these nicknames have to have some origin right? Within the last couple of weeks, I really tried to stick to 3 meals a day - without a cookie here, a bowl of greek yogurt there and a piece of cake in the afternoon. Since I am still on vacation, I usually wake up at 9 am, so that makes the timespan between breakfast and lunch (usually at 1:30 pm) a little bit more bearable. But with a filling breakfast and lunch, I haven't been craving any snacks for the meantime *writes this while thinking how to satisfy my sudden hunger - maybe because of the pictures?!*. However, for the time that your hunger kicks in or you need a quick hit of energy, I've found 3 snack ideas that do exactly that, but are still healthy and don't contain any refined sugar! Great for a sweet tooth like me (another nickname)!

BLUEBERRY BANANA BREAKFAST MUFFINS

They say breakfast is the most important meal of the day (and it's my favorite) but for those of you, who don't like to eat a lot after waking up, these breakfast muffins might be the perfect alternative. My family loved them when I made them last week!

Ingredients for 7 muffins:
  • 110gr oats
  • 3tbsp agave syrup
  • 1tsp cinnamon
  • 1tsp baking powder
  • 85ml milk
  • 60gr applesauce
  • 1tsp vanilla sugar
  • 40gr blueberries
  • 1/2 banana
  • 1 egg

Preheat the oven at 175°C and cut the banana into slices. Mix the oats together with the agave syrup, cinnamon and baking powder. Add the milk, egg, applesauce, vanilla sugar, berries and banana and mix everything until it's a smooth consistency. Fill the batter into the muffin tray and bake it in the oven for 30 minutes. Enjoy it for breakfast or as a small snack inbetween.

DATE ENERGY BITES

I already made these 3 times in the last month and everybody who tried them loved them. Great for a quick hit of energy inbetween or to pass the time until dinner! Really easy to make and they stay fresh for at least 1 week, when you store them in the fridge.

Ingredients for 10-16 bites (depending on their size)

  • 120gr pitted dates
  • 120gr dried apple rings
  • 120gr almonds
  • 120gr oats
  • 1tbsp agave syrup

Cover the dates in hot water and leave them to soak for 10 minutes to soften. Drain and squeeze out the water. Place them in a food processor together with the other ingredients, add 1 tbsp of water and blend until the mixture has a sticky, dough-like consistency. Using your clean, wet hands, roll the mixture into 10-16 little balls. Store them in a container in the fridge.

GUILT-FREE COOKIES

I found this recipe a few days ago, when Tijan Serena mentioned it in her Instagram Stories. I love cookies, so a guilt free version sounds great to me! I changed up the recipe a bit and they are delicious.
  • 1,5 cups of (almond) flour
  • 1,5 cups oats
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 3/4 tsp baking soda
  • 3/4 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 cup slivered almonds
  • 3/4 cup chocolate chips
  • 3/4 cup coconut oil
  • 1/2 cup agave syrup

Preheat the oven at 150°C. Mix the dry ingredients and add the liquid ingredients afterwards. Blend everthing until the mixture is a dough-like consistency. Scoop out little balls and flatten them into cookie-like shapes on your baking tray. Bake them for 15-20 minutes or until nicely golden brown.

  3. All the recipes you mentioned sound delicious but I may have to try that muffin recipe asap. They look so good and if they aren't necessarily bad for you that who says we can't have them every morning? ;)
